upgrade 1.5.3 "Arecibo" to 1.6.6 "Bonde"

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

upgrade 1.5.3 "Arecibo" to 1.6.6 "Bonde"

Post by magnacom »

hi

i wondered if anyone had any experience in upgrading from 1.5.3 "Arecibo" to 1.6.6 "Bonde"?

ive read a few posts where people are having problems with it, is there a guide to this upgrade or infact upgrading between any major release, its a live site and i cant afford for it to break.

im not sure if you have to run any installs after copying the files etc, is there a step by step guide?

many thanks for any advice.

1. Backup files and DB of working site
2. Create test site form backup
3. Upgrade test site to latest CMSms version
4. Solve small issues after upgrade
5.
   a. If during this time original site has not changed, just upload files and import DB data from test site to working one.
   b. If working site have changed, do the same steps to it, you have done to upgrade your test site.
6. (Optional) :) If something goes wrong on step 5 - blame yourself for not creating backup in first place.

How to...

http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php ... /Upgrading

It is easy to do, DL latest version, if doing FTP transfer, unpack and upload with overwrite all, go to site with install/upgrade.php at end of URL and follow prompts, biggest problem most have is with tinyMCE, read release note #7 basically after upgrade go to extensions > modules uninstall tiny then hit install button...

I'm doing something the same thing, and have an additional question - I read somewhere, at sometime, that you should uninstall all the non-core modules before upgrading like this. I can't find the post/page where I saw that. Is this still true? Will it lose all of the information the module created? I'm specifically wondering about Album, etc...

Yes, when you uninstall a module, all data related to that module is erased. I have occasionally found it helpful to simply rename the \modules folder, then upgrade, then rename back to \modules

I keep running into fatal errors during the upgrade, so I will try the renaming 'modules' trick! I'll report back.

I have successfully upgraded without messing with the modules on my local LAMPP, but not on an outside server.

Hi,

Just wanted to ask a simple question I need to upgrade from both 1.5.3 and 1.5.4 to 1.6.6.
I have backed everything up and was wondering if it is OK to do the upgrade via FTP?

I know someone below mentioned that it was but was wondering what will happen to my images and modules.....
As I have never done an upgrade before I was wondering if they would be written over and also what about permissions, as these are owned by both Web and Admin ???  ???

Usually upgrade goes ok, but file transfer ( 2600 files at least) takes long tome to finish.

Your pictures will stay as they were, only files that belongs to CMSms will (and have to be) overwritten.
I have backed everything up
You will be fine :)
