New Site greendoctoroakpark.com

Post by chrismarie »

I love CMSMS - I just used it to make a site for an Oak Park, IL doctor.

His practice isn't ready to go just yet, so I have it hiding behind a coming soon page on the index, but if you go to: http://www.greendoctoroakpark.com/home you can click through.

I'm still debugging in various browsers, so a heads up about any display issues that you come across would be helpful. I had to tweak SimpleSlider a bit to get the XHTML to validate, but all should be well as far as the W3C is concerned.  I've got a few errors in the CSS due to the simpleslider's opacity issues, but I'm tired of beating my head against the wall.

Cms Version: 1.6.6
Installed Modules:

   * CMSMailer: 1.73.14
   * FileManager: 1.0.1
   * MenuManager: 1.6.2
   * ModuleManager: 1.3.1
   * News: 2.10.3
   * nuSOAP: 1.0.1
   * Printing: 1.0.4
   * Search: 1.6.1
   * ThemeManager: 1.1.1
   * TinyMCE: 2.5.5
   * FormBuilder: 0.6
   * SimpleSlider: 0.3

Thanks for checking it out.

This is a really great looking site. My only comment is that the quote and flashing image at the top of the subpages pushes the content beyond my screen so I couldn't immediately tell if the link had gone to a different page or not.

It's a very nice looking site, but there is too much scrolling to get to the content of the pages. The logo and rotating image areas take up 3/4 of the screen and on pages where there is a quotation at the top of the content, no content is viewable without scrolling.

Too much emphasis on style and not enough on usability. I think a lot of viewers will click through the site without getting much info at all.

Ideally, aside from perhaps the "Home/Welcome" page, you'd like to present the content of subsequent pages in "screen sized" chunks, without a lot of scrolling.

Just my 2¢.

Thanks for the feedback!  I couldn't agree more about the slideshow taking up too much content space - I lobbied for decreasing the amount of content overall and only having image slides on the home page, but at the end of the day, it's not my website.  I made a slideshow-free template to try to sell the idea, but I don't think I'm going to win this one.

You need to explain usability issues to them as it does seem like every page is the same info, it's like the fold in newspapers, what's above the fold is most likely going to capture the visitors attention and if they like the home page enuf to click to another they better not see what looks like an exact same page/content...
