CMSMS vs. Joomla

Post by janggu »

Hi there,

I plan to integrate a static website into a CMS and have been comparing features between CMSMS and Joomla. What I am looking for is a CMS is compatible with a shopping cart and membership registration. The membership registration module needs to be customizable with different form fields (i.e. name, address, work address, member type...etc.) and it needs to accept payments. It seems that Joomla has more and better modules than CMSMS. However, I have worked with CMSMS before and know how simple it is to work with it.

Does anyone have thoughts on my dilemma??? Could you please point me a few CMSMS modules that I could take a look for my needs?

Hi there, yes this could be a dilemma.

Pros Joomla:
1. vast variety of functions and templates
2. all-inclusive, ready-to-go solutions (if that is what you are after!)
3. very large user group
...

Cons Joomla:
1. can be an overkill depending on the project
2. hard to fine tune, hence needs hacking
3. simple task could turn out hard or impossible to implement (given time, expertise, etc)
...

CMSMS (with much less experience):
1. seems like a very robust system
2. self-contained configuration (modules)
3. writing UDTs replaces hacking, that gives a peace of mind and makes buildin a project very modular
4. source of professional templates is not obvious
5. dues to its simplicity, its administration can be delegated to clients much more that that of Joomla

I hope it helps.
