[solved] Repairing 1.0.6 install after aborted update

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

[solved] Repairing 1.0.6 install after aborted update

Post by Logodae »

So, I started to update my site to the latest version of CMSMS. Then I saw the note about something being changed such that Cataloger wouldn't work. Since the site's 95% done in Cataloger, I decided maybe updating wasn't such a bright idea. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to correctly restore my backup -- which was just a copy of my public_html directory. Right now I've got something that's calling itself 1.06 again, but the Admin Panel formatting is gone, and the site itself is missing its navigation bar, although it otherwise appears to be formatted correctly. And I'm clueless about debugging something like this.

I realize it's my own fault for A) assuming the update would be backwards compatible and B) assuming that I'd easily be able to restore my current version if necessary... and hey, let's add: C) updating something that was working fine in the first place. If I'd checked the forum and seen that "Notes on doing a big upgrade" sticky, I never would have tried to update. If anyone can help me untangle this, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Well, I've managed to get the formatting back on the admin panel, but still no navbar on the site. Still can't figure what would break that and (seemingly) nothing else. I'm guessing it's somehow a permissions issue, since that's the only thing I can figure wouldn't transfer correctly in my (presumably naive) download-then-upload-to-restore backup process... but where?

Again, I realize I'm fooling around with an unsupported version and it's my own damn fault, etc., but I suspect the answer might be blindingly obvious to anyone who actually knows what they're doing.

Link/code? Use the instructions in my signature for backup and restore? What does html source says?

Sorry, thought I'd posted again to this thread after I fixed the problem. All I ended up doing was uninstalling and reinstalling (via the admin panel, not just deleting/reuploading) the menu manager module. Everything seems to be working again... and I'm going back to my previous philosophy of "if it ain't broke, don't upgrade it."

That said, thank you for the reply -- I did take a look at your site while I was still flailing around, and if I ever do decide to upgrade, I'd be inclined to hire you to do it. Coincidentally, I'm in Western MA. too. Anyway, thanks for the thought, and I may be in touch at some point.

Glad it's working now.
