[solved] XML - theme installation

Post by fraterminor »

Hello there, I'm havin troubles, installing an xml-Theme on a CMS on my provider's webspace. I uploaded via FTP, installed as shown in the HotTo and all worked out fine, but when I get to the menu, where I should be able to upload a theme/XML, I get an error-message, something, that I should check permissions on my directories "upload" and "modules" - I checked the permissions and the safe_mode-settings and everything is alright there, but I still get the error.

In the german forum someone suggested to install XML on a local machine - I did that on another local installation of CMSms, but don't know, how to transfer the settings to my productive server...?

  Help anyone?

  Thanks in advance

You went to theme manager second tab import and browsed for xml clicked upload, as that is only way to do xml theme files, if you get error like folder permissions you need to check the system info page for any yellow ! or red X if none you may want to change permissions to 775 to see if it help or you may need to change your unmask, default is 022 try 002 or 000 testing it each time after changing and submitting...

Hello Doc,

Thanks for your tipps, it was the very same problem, that you described better than me - but changing the values for unmask and trying 775 on "modules" and "uploads" did not get it working for me. I have tried all possible variations, but it still doesn't work

On the system-informatin-Screen I get one red x on "root path", which i set on 755 and the following yellow exclamation marks:

Deaktivierte PHP-Funktionen (disable_functions):
exec, system, passthru, shell_exec, popen, escapeshellcmd, proc_open, proc_nice

PHP "Open Basedir" (open_basedir):
/www/htdocs/w00a1dac/:/tmp:/usr/bin:/www/htdocs/w00a1dac:/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/share/php

If all else fails and you do have it locally then copy/paste the template, style sheets, menu template, and upload any images etc it comes with to your server...

Ok, I did the following, because I didn't find the differing files immediately:

I had two identical cmsms-installations on my local server - installed the Theme-XML on one and found the differences with DiffMerge (tool for folder/file comparison) - I copied the differing files to their destinations on my public CMSms, and voilá: nothing! ;-) No Themes showing up in my Themes-folder, no chance.

Apparently I missed some important point - could you help me again, thanks for your help so far anyway...

  Thanks in advance

Yes, the themes and stylesheets are stored in the database, not in the files.

Thanx 2 all - we found another solution for the website, but it the information provided will help in further projects - we'll do some local installations and migrate the whole Site in the future... ;-)
