(solved) - Upgrade doesn't work (1.0.8 -> 1.1)

Post by Pythoniels »

Hi all,

i am a user of CMSMS 1.02 (yes I know, very old version) but it was time to update it. Because it contains over 1000 pages, I decided to try it first on a different location and not with my main site. I installed version 1.02 and upgraded it to 1.03 and so on. Tilll 1.08. From that update i have to download version 1.1 and so i did.

The other upgrades worked proper because of the "cmsmadesimple-diff-1.0.2-1.0.3" packages. But that wasn't available for version 1.1. I uploaded all files to my host and my website is now blank (check: www.aircrafts.nl/testcms/) i also put the folder: install on the host and tried to run the upgrade, but even this page is blank.

Can anyone tell me what I did wrong?

With kind regards Niels Hager.

I wouldn't bother doing all the incremental updates from 1.08 to current.  That just sounds like a massive waste of time to me.

I would perform a backup of the database, then wipe your install files and perform a clean install of 1.6.6.  Run the installer and select your database.  Use the existing table prefix, but do NOT install the sample content.

I would :
  • build back up site to my local PC
  • downloaded full 1.6.6 CMSms version
  • upgrade stright to version 1.6.6
  • solved some small issues and
  • transfer upgraded site to server.

@jmcgin51: I now installed version 1.6, installed it an then I changed the database settings in the config.php file. But now it looks terrible: www.aircrafts.nl/test2 :(

Installing newest version and using old database is a piece of cake. You can post any specific problems that you come up with. Also, I have services available for website transfer.

Don't forget to check all config.php paths.

I know what I did wrong. I first installed version 1.0.2 and after that, I uploaded all 1.6 files to my host. I tried to make connection with the database but without succes. After that, I run the upgrade.php and now it works. Only some errors with the news module, but I already solved this by uploading and older version of the news module.

Thanks for all help.

What were the messages in News. formatpostdate? If so, no older version was needed, just the change of the call in the template/page.

No it was something else. I installed the newer version on 2/3 folders. I'll post the message during the installation of the last one.

And now something else. I think it's something smalls, but the 404 error doesn't work. It's just a blank page, even when I put some text in it. Any ideas how to fix?

Make it clearer that you still have a problem (you might want to start another post). And include more information.
