Forge is a mess

Post by fatlizard »

At present, I find the Forge very messy and disorganized.
  • there are projects registered but never started
  • there isn't a way to see which are the newly registered projects
  • there is no way to see those projects that have been updated, other than trawling through them one at a time
Can this be addressed in some way?

this has been discussed in several places recently (last 6mos).  My take on it is that the dev team understands that the Forge is not particularly user friendly and needs a makeover and cleanup, but CMSMS development is their priority, so the Forge waits for another day...

There is currently a list on the right hand side of the main page (http://dev.cmsmadesimple.org) however the list for new projects and updates are limited to 5 posts. It has been requested that there be longer lists or separate pages that show more items. I agree that this would be nice, along with a little more information. Unfortunately, as stated above, resources are limited and the focus has been on CMSMS development and getting to version 2.0. We have been on a search for someone that is capable and can be trusted to make modifications to the forge, but haven't found anything on our budget which is next to nothing.  :(
If all else fails, use a bigger hammer.

As someone who has submitted "big ideas" before I have come to the following conclusions -

1) The CMSMS team is absolutely awersome in how fast new versions are released

2) Suggestions will not help much for people who are very busy with backlogged features and bug reports

3) A donation (with an attached wish list of features) or a paid work offer is the best way to contribute to CMSMS if you cannot contribute code.
