Need help reviewing server requirements

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Need help reviewing server requirements

Post by mwg »

Hi, i have a shared hosting package with hawkhost and i need you to look at their specs. I already have installed cms made simple there in the past version 1.5.2 but just to compare it to other cms, now i want to use it for real projects and i want to do things the correct way. That is why i have begun reading documentation and the first thing you find is requirements. You have most of the specs for hawkhost shared here

http://www.hawkhost.com/Shared/compare

I have read them myself but i am what you could name a poweruser not a programmer so server topics are in the limit of my knowledge i more or less know a bit of some things. M y opinion is that all are met except one and another one is not clear.

php working sessions and tokenizer. I read they use php 5 but do not know what those two specs mean or if they are available. If you cannot tell from the specs just tell me and i mail them.

webser is not

Apache 1.3
Apache 2
IIS 5+
LightTPD 1.4+

they use litespeed and after serching for it it may seem an alternative to lighttpd but i dont know if the change may cause cms made simple to return errors.

Those two are the ones i have noticed if you cant tell or you find others please tell me so i can write them asking.

Looking at this from a non-programmer perspective....did you run the install?

If so, did you notice any warnings or errors in the process?
dont know if the change may cause cms made simple to return errors
Go through the process and let us know what you encounter.

Hi again. im about to install cms made simple as soon as i receive some feedback from my hosting company but i want to ask another thing here before installing.

My older installation is version 1.5.2 if i install over it (using cpanel installing way through file manager) last version 1.6.5 would every single file and folder be overwritten so no old unused files and folders are left mixed with new ones.

Or may i simply make a copy of the complete folder using ftp, then delete de entire folder (suposing that except for the mysql data there are no other files and folders anywhere are there) then make clean install of 1.6.5 and then just paste config.php and templates from the previously made local copy.

Or being more precise i suppose that im asking if file structure for version 1.6.5 have changed at all from 1.5.2 Would you anyway recommend me one of those two ways to upgrade my installation.

I recommended them to add it to their cpanel cms supported menu but they told me to not be in their radar for now. They are hawkhost if anyone of the team is interested in promoting it.
