Migration scripts

A couple of questions:

1)  Is there a utility that allows me to save a portion of the content of my site, for example I use the GrassStain.xml theme, I want to save everything under a particular vertical pulldown menu, and move that to a different site with the same version of cmsmadesimple, today I have to visit every page and do cut and paste, very time consuming

2)  When I migrated from 1.2.3 to 1.5.3, I had to do everything by hand, cut/paste all pages, is there going to be migration scripts moving forward?  Are the mysql backup upward compatible when you release minor versions, say 1.5.4, 1.5.5?
