Just looking into possible options for a forum at the minute. The forum would be the main part of the site and I'm just looking for recommendations on which forum software others have used and how they found it. I'm looking at vBulletin, phpbb or the cmsms forum.
Preference would be cmsms forum as it leaves it easier to integrate the whole website but I'm just wondering how its features compared to other open source forum specific software like phpbb or paid software like vBulletin.
If anyone has used the cmsms forum can you please provide a link.
Any comments appreciated. Thanks.
Paul

Re: CMSMS Forum vs vBulletin vs phpbb
Vigor,
we are currently integrating the Forum Made Simple module. Its a very simple but functional forum system, with no frills. Users cannot rate a post, nor do they have a profile page that allows them to finetune their settings. Its a sufficient forum for a site that is not very forum-heavy (like mine).
Since you want to focus on the forum I suggest to pick an existing forum engine and brigde the front end users into CMSMS (if you need front end users outside the forum at all). I've seen bridges for SMF and others, but I have not looked into it any deeper.

Use FluxBB oder Punbb for a simple and fast forum. When you want more features phpBB or SMF is the right for you. If you don´t know which forum for you fits best vBulletin is not the right software for you.
What did you mean with "CMSMS Forum"?

Thanks for the replies. When I say CMSMS forum I mean any of the forum solutions CMSMS has to offer. Has anyone tried to bridge front end users like chuccaville mentioned. I would be using frontend users in the main part of this site. Again all comments appreciated. Thanks.
Re: CMSMS Forum vs vBulletin vs phpbb
I'm using the FMS-plugin on a website now. As chuccaville says, it's a real no-nonsense forum. It's very easy to edit templates (the CMSMS/Smarty way
) and to integrate in an existing website, but it doesn't have a lot of features. And as it's still in Beta, you might encounter some bugs. (yes there are).

Hi Paul
Pierre M.
I would have asked this in "The Lounge" or directly on the Forum software support boards : I want a forum site this alike, shall I use your forum, what CMS shall I plug on it ?-)vigor wrote: Just looking into possible options for a forum at the minute.
