Upgrading 1.4.1 to 1.6.4

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Upgrading 1.4.1 to 1.6.4

Post by curana »

Hi,
I tried upgrading my 1.4.1 to 1.6.4 but all I get is errors.

First I tried to copy the FULL-package over the 1.4.1 directory and see what happens. It says "PHPIDS-error". Ok, not working.

Then I installed from scratch and did my customization but all I get is errors that my moved admin-directory is not found.

Im not sure if I will stay with CMSMS.

curana,

Although it should not be necessary, have you tried to upgrade in steps. This might help learning in what step things go wrong.
It might be of help as well to include in this post the system settings that you currently have.

How did you upload your files?

Can you tell us what you mean by this: "did my customization"?
Im not sure if I will stay with CMSMS.

Would really hate to see you turn to another CMS because of what is most likely an issue which can be solved. I have went from 1.4 to current, so I know it can be done.

What do you mean by "moved admin folder", if you renamed your admin-folder, and changed the config.php accordingly, then the upload of new files will go wrong, as the new version will have /admin as folder again....

Sorry for my late reply, seems the mail-notification is not working for me.

Originally I didnt want to upgrade as Im waiting for the 2.0 version. The sites Im running work quite well. But a few weeks ago TinyMCE stopped working. It just disappeared kind of from one day to another.

I tried to deinstall, install again etc but no use.

So I decided to upgrade and downloaded the 1.6.4. (fetch http://.../...tar.gz), extracted it and let it overwrite the existing files. Then I did the setup and after it asked me to upgrade the database. No problem so far. Then I tried to login but got a PHPIDS-error. It said it couldnt be found even it existed.

Then I deleted everything and did the same again. Then I renamed my admin-folder as this is always the first thing I do (Security by obscurity). I edited the config.inc.php and set my new admin-dir path but when I logged in all I got was a bunch of error messages, "Not found, not found, not found".

I restored my backup now. I guess the next releases of my websites will have to be started from a fresh installation. Mainly that TinyMCE died is my main problem.

Yesterday I did a 1.4.2 to 1.6.4 by simply downloading the full 1.6.4 release and then uploading it to my web site overwriting the old files. I then did the /install/upgrade.php and did the upgrade in steps. The schema changed from 31 to 32 so not much of a change.

Note that if you did do such a big upgrade you will find that TinyMCE has no buttons in 1.6.4. This is easily fixed,

In Admin backend go to Extensions -> TinyMCE WYSIWYG
and then under the Profiles tab go to the bottom and click the Reset Defaults button and then save each profile (the two admin and the one front-end).

TinyMCE will now have its buttons back. This may or may not be related to your TinyMCE issue but it seemed relevant. Try resetting the profiles.

Hello,

If you have a backup, you can investigate in System Info and System Verification in 1.4 before the upgrade process and in 1.6 after it, can't you ?
We know nothing about your hosting context. I ignore what a "PHPIDS-error" is. Let me think this is not a CMSms issue but a hosting issue unless I have more evidence (say http logS and hosting provider's say).
