doing an upgrade but hit a problem

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Firstly, you need to give us more info.

Copy the System Info from admin, for starters, then tell us a bit more about the site - a link to it would help too.

Looks like your database is toast - hope you have a backup.

Ok i have restored the site to its previous settings, i am using 1.2.2 Holetown on this site.

Can someone explain in simple terms how i can go about upgrading this site now to 1.6.1 ?

ive never done a succesfull upgrade before, and dispite reading all the documents, something always seems to go wrong.

As far as i understand it, i should now download cmsmadesimple-1.6.1-full.tar.gz

unzip it and upload all of its contents onto my sites hosting.

Once that is done i should then go to /upgrade.php and select ok and that should be that, am i right so far?

i did this last night and thats when this page popped up saying

Database Connection Failed
Error: Access denied for user 'cms'@'localhost' (using password: YES) (1045)
Function Performed: CONNECT
Host/DB: localhost/cms
Database Type: mysql

my password to my database is not YES as it seems the above is trying to connect with. Any advice? am i on the right tracks?

Hello,

1.2.2 is very very old...
Does this 1.2.2 install work OK ? (before upgrading)
Do you have special modules/settings ?
Could you try a 1.2->1.4->1.6 upgrade path ? Using System Info inside 1.4+...

Are you sure it's not because the config.php is set to read and not write during upgrade?...

I've just wgot 1.4.1-full to check : it has /install/upgrade.php and /install/upgrades
Check your downloads, check your uploads.

Sounds like a authentication issue with your database, after the upgrade open the config.php file and double-check your database settings.
