IE not alowing admin editing of content

Post by Mury »

Hi Folks, I could do with some more assistance.
I use FFox but my boss (not computer wiz)  uses IE.  I am building a new site and alls working.
However when we go to use IE to update the content, Admin says the update is successful but NO CHANGES are made.
I have checked cookies (all allowed), Java script seems to be working & popups are enabled. This is with IE 7 and CMSMS 1.6.
I would appreciate ANY ideas as I need to enable others to update content and they are using IE.
This seems to happen on both our computers so it doesnt seem to be a security/virus checker issue (we use different virus programs).
Help please!!!

Any suggestions at all/ This happens on two separate laptops with different versions of IE.
All IE settings seem to be as suggested by CMSMS but we still cannot get the system to retain admin updates of a Page.
FFox works fine and Page updates work - there has to be a reason.
Is this a CMSMS thing against IE  :)  ??
Thanks

This is strange indeed - i can't recall this been reported by anyone....

Are "your boss" using the same user login as you or is it an other admin user?
If an other user - are you sure that user have all rights to update the pages.....?

Please also add full system information so we get an idea that type of install this is...

Hi Reneh,
Thanks for getting back - This is a test site we have to complete this week.  The install is the latest download of CMSMS (1.6 "New Caledonia").  I use latest FFox and also can swap to IE6 & IE 7.  Most of my work is done in FF.
I only noticed this when my colleague went to try updating the test site (they use IE 7) and jumped all over me :)
I then noticed that I also could not retain updates to a Page using IE 6 or 7.
The system says it has updated the content - but no changes are made.
I checked cookies, javascript and popups - all seem to be set to suggested settings.
(If needed I will post the server/install info)

I am using a modified version of Freshmedia theme, but the standard default install of the admin.
I am using Tinymc as editor.  However, even if updating in HTML, the changes are not retained when running IE.
We were using the same login - but now have separate ones.  This also happens even if I work logged in alone on IE.

We are now both using FF to update the test site ATM - thats working - but I dont understand why IE is throwing a wobbly - again.  Its not nice to tell someone they have to use one browser to work in.
My feeling is this is some obscure IE setting but I cant work it out.
Any help appreciated - regards.

We don't... (and never have) supported IE6 for an admin browser.  IE7 probably has the same shortcomings IE6 did, but hasn't been tested.

calguy - can you or someone else from the dev team elaborate on why IE is not supported as an admin browser?  what are the major "shortcomings" that make it a poor choice?

Mury:
Latest version is 1.6.1
and soon 1.6.2

Please try the 1.6.1(or bigger) - who knows.....

Hmmm - thanks Calguy for making that clear.  But like jmcjin, its nice to have a reason - we sometimes get asked by bosses & clients  asking why we are suggesting a product that decides not to support IE( its still the biggest browser base - unfortunately).
Is there a technical reason for the non-support of IE admin function?
Im Ok with FF & CMSMS but others may get stroppy.
Anyway - in the meantime we are using FF to admin edit.
Regards all.
