[Solved] 1.5.1 to 1.6 upgrade didn't work at all

Post by pepperoni »

Hi there,
That's my first ever post only because I don't know what to do any more! I feel I have lost everything.

Anyway, the server characteristics are PHP 5.2.5, MySQL 5.0.77 Operating system Linux.
I have installed version 1.5.1 quite a while ago. Everything was going well and I was slowly creating pages and a whole website.
Until yesterday where I decided that It was time to upgrade to 1.6.
I have read the instructions and thought its not difficult, I can manage.
I did a full backup of the website before I proceed with any changes. Full backup from cpanel. Cool.
Then I went to do the upgrade and it seemed that everything was going smooth.
Looking on the admin pages and particularly going to Content>Pages when clicking on a page and tried to change the text I realised I can't see any toolbar for tinymce. And also you know there are 3 tabs, Main/Options/Preview, there were not working, everything was in one long page and showing a bit messy.
So I decided to try again with the upgrade. Like transferring all he files again in my home di and go through the install/upgrade process again. Well, the result was the same. Still the same problems.
So I said I'll do a clean install of 1.6 and then use my backup file of the website. (big mistake!)
Now the 1.6 version works well but all my pages and stylesheets and templates are gone. Don't know how to get them back.
I even tried deleting everything from my home dir and use just my backup files so I can get my old installation and website on. Nothing. Doesn't work. I still get the default pages of cms ("Congratulations! The installation worked. You now have a fully functional installation ...") and i can't see my pages.
Does anyone know or can suggest me something to do? If there is a way to see my templates and stylesheets and pages I don't mind to go through the process again of re-do the pages...but if I have lost everything without being able to get anything back I'm in so deep sh*t. I was ready to finish the website after 4-5 months of work. Even the thought of that is killing me.
Any whatsoever suggestions welcome.
peace

Did you read this?...

http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php ... /Upgrading

Hopefully you backed up your data base as everything you say you lost, templates, style sheets, page content is in the data base not in the files on server...

When you want done backup you must done backup of FILE AND DB.
You have all (about) in DB: template, stylesheet, pages, ....
For files is very important uploads folder and config.php

If you have a backup of DB then:
- restore your DB
- whole 1.6 new pack and old uploads folder and old config.php
- run install/upgrade.php

thank you mark and alby,

I have managed to get the website up like it was before....such a relief!
I have imported the database and upload folder and config.php and all went back to normal.
The last 2 pages I added the day of the upgrade are not there for some strange reason but I can add them again, no probs.
Also I did get that message during the upgrade about the schema upgrade, that I have version 1 and cms needs to have version 2. Don't know how to do that, read a few posts about it but nothing clear to me.
Buy anyway the thing is the website is ok now.
Thanks again guys, quick and helpful.  ;)

After overwriting all the files with the new version. You can login the backend, the upgrade process will start then, and update the db-version.
