You heard correctly.
I've managed to use slitaz (a live CD linux distribution) to create a bootable LiveCD with CMSMS.
- Uses lighthttpd
- Uses mysql
- Uses php, with php-gd
- Works in 256Mb of ram
- ISO is ~45mb
- Installs to hard drive or to usb stick
- Comes with editors, a few games, web browser...
This live CD will allow you to download and install CMSMS modules from the module manager, test out features, etc. etc. and once you install it to a USB stick you'll have a portable linux environment suitable for developing any CMSMS website.
I started this project with the intent of distributing these CD's filled with presentations and documents at the geek moot, but I think having a portable, stable, consistent working environment would be a handy tool. So after we get finished with the branding, I'll probably be releasing an ISO after 1.6 comes out.
How many people would be interested?

Re: CMSMS Live CD
sounds promising - count me as interested!
Re: CMSMS Live CD
sounds great!
dont forget include filezilla, ssh client, samba client, and some desktop shortcurts to important cmsms references...

I am interested.
I think this is included in most linux installs, but make sure it has svn client.

Re: CMSMS Live CD
I have Portable Apps installed on my USB memory stick. Slowness is an issue (make sure to allow enough time for mySQL queries or you will have timeout errors), but it works. It also has some other stuff like FTP, HTML editor, etc, etc.
Re: CMSMS Live CD
Great idea, thank you Calguy1000 !
BTW, I see it more as a "try before you select it" marketing tool than a strict dev tool. So please don't forget sample content, some themes, some admin themes and checksum.

Funny you should mention it. That was my intention when I started research and calguy jumped in with some pointers and ran with it... so naturally there was a bit of a development tool in mind for him

I could be wrong, but I don't foresee all of that happening.viebig wrote: sounds great!

The goal is:
1.) KISS - We want it simple for everyone to use and to use as a marketing or quick development tool. So mainly the basics to run CMSMS are being installed
2.) A very light ISO. We want this to be easy to download and distribute... the more we add the bigger it gets.
If all else fails, use a bigger hammer.

Re: CMSMS Live CD
I think a customised live CD is a good idea.
Just to throw another option in the works, you can do similar customisation with Ubuntu as well - that would have different features compared with Slitaz
-- bigger footprint; bigger memory stick needed
++ more apps bundled in by default
++ popular distro

Hello,
although I'm a Debian fan and Debian Live is improving I've found this interesting article :

It could be a(nother) way to provide a way to try/work with a CMSms appliance.
