The mysteries of $returnid?

Hi,

Developing my first module based on Skeleton and a lot of poking around in News.  I have a half-dozen or so editing screens/tabs in the admin interface, but I'm not sure of the purpose of $returnid in the DoAction() call or how I should handle it in my links.  Could someone please help me grock this arg?
