portfolio page

Post by Scotto87 »

I thought I'd explain how I want the page and CMS to work and then hopefully some kind people (yourselves) would tell me roughly how to go about this e.g. use tags/module and insert it using {global blah blah} etc.

Please note I'm not asking for somebody to do this for me! I'm currently learning CMSMS and I'm trying my best.

I'm making a website and I have a portfolio page.

I want to be able to add new portfolio pieces.

I'm guessing having Portfolio with a template set up which accommodates the portfolio pieces.

Then creating a piece for the portfolio using the 'parent' page as the way to insert it into the portfolio page itself.

If anybody can explain the best way to go about this it would be great.

I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to create the portfolio template, I've got a design and coding already built, the main problem is where to put it - tags - modules - etc etc....

Thanks in advance!

I have seen people use both the Products and Cataloger modules to do this. In this situation you have to think of each portfolio item/project as an inventory item to be listed in Products/Cataloger. With the proper modifications to the templates you should be able to accomplish this fairly easily.

Do you know of any examples?

Do the modules come with templates etc?

I do not have any exact examples. Spend some time in the "Show Off Forum"  there are a lot of peoples portfolios shown. They may also have information on how they did their portfolio.

I know the Products module comes with default templates to show a Product. It would not take much to modify it. Just remember you have to treat each portfolio item as a Product

Nevermind, i'm using the Products module and ive set everything up and its working great.

However I want to get rid of a few options within the admin section. I've found the file on the server and deleted what I want rid of however it won't let me overwrite the files on the server due to permissions and it won't let me change the permissions.

Anybody know a way around this?

I am going to bet you used Module Manager to install the module.

Here is a stickied thread from the "Product Support" forum that may be of interest to you: http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.ph ... 505.0.html

If it were me, I would just keep those tabs. You may eventually find a need for them. Plus if it is for you personally you'll know which tabs to use and your changes won't get overwritten anytime you do an upgrade.

I got the host to change the permissions, I have kept the code and just commented out what I didn't want.

It won't be me editing the site and I don't want to chance things getting messed up etc so its the best way.
