Hi,
I recently got back responsibility over a webpage of a conference that I used to administrate couple of year ago. Back then I installed CMS Made Simple version 0.12.1 and, naturally, no updates have been done since. Now, I would like to do it.
What I've read from the forums, it seems obvious that the update from 0.12.1 to latest is not supported and can, possibly, cause problems. Thus, it seems I need to do a fresh install with the new version and then somehow dump the data....
What I would like to know is that how much the database has changed since 0.12.1. Or, to put it another way, how much manual work I need to do in order to get my new CSMSM installation to work with the old data....
Any good hints/ideas/suggestions how to do this with the smallest amount of pain are welcome!

Upgrading ancient installation (0.12.1 -> latest)
Re: Upgrading ancient installation (0.12.1 -> latest)
Jussi,
the database has changed a lot since then
But the upgrade process should work. There are offcourse News and other stuff that is db-driven as templates are concerned....
I would say that backing up all, so DB and FILES, and then transfer the full package of 1.5.4 over the files could be do-able.
After uploading the files, start the upgrade-process by browsing to domain.com/install/upgrade.php

my advice is update in two steps (run upgrade.php and look if works):
1.2.5 (pay attention because this break News templates)
1.5.4 (pay attention because this break News RSS and format date)

Yes! An indeed ancient installation....alby wrote: Three years ago![]()

Thanks for the tips for both of you. I'll find a proper time slot (for several days perhaps!) and will see what happen. Prepare for new requests for help in future!
Luckily, this site has not been using news nor the rss before (but will use in future) so this should help me a bit I hope.

I will agree with the other two. Be sure to back everything (files/database) up so you have something to fall back on.
Thank take it in baby steps. I may even take it another step further than what alby recommended and use a few packages prior to 1.2.4.
I'd go to 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.2.4, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5.4 but that's because I am paranoid.

If all else fails, use a bigger hammer.

I did a total leap from 0.8 to 1.5.2 one time but they weren't using news or any other modules just the core...
