Online Magazine: Is CMS Made Simple Right For Me?

Post by be_here_now »

Well, first of all, since I'm new here, I'd like to say hello to everyone on the forum :-)

I'm the editor of a new online music magazine, called Split Magazine [www.split-magazine.com]. I was supposed to have launched it yesterday: I tried using Textpattern, but it's not working out for me. I have gone through the CMS Made Simple website, and from what I've seen and read, it looks good. (Since Textpattern wasn't working out, and I had to put up a temporary home page, announcing that the site is coming up.)

I wanted to know if CMS Made Simple is right for me. I need to be able to set up templates (with CSS defined by me), publish articles (with text and images) in various categories, which I think CMS Made Simple can handle.

I need to know if CMS MS can put up lists of the most recent articles on the home page, as and when they are posted, along with the category name. In my design, I have some 'boxes' on the home page, with lists of the latest articles from the various sections.

This is the tentative design of my site, I might change it a little bit, but the boxes remain.

I'd really appreciate any help from you guys, 'coz I have to get this up and running very soon! Thanks a lot :-)

Thanks for your reply!

Just one more question. Say, I have a category named 'Magazine', it will have various sub-categories, such as interviews, reviews, etc. But in the magazine box, I want the latest articles from the Magazine category to appear, with the name of the sub-category displayed on the line above the title. How is that done?

Again, sorry if I appear to be an ignorant fool.

I am stuck! I have coded the pages using notepad, and tested them locally on my browser. They work fine. I created a new template (my original html file), and a new stylesheet to be associated with the template. The page looks fine when I tested it on Firefox and IE on my local computer, in the 'preview' pane in CMS MS edit template page, it looks all weird.

Plus, I am still not sure what I'm supposed to do with those boxes. I guess I just suck at this. Please, someone help me out here.
