News/Posted by showing wrong username [solved]

Post by Verummba »

Hello, I hope this is the right section. Some of you may have seen my other threads - I am in the process of transferring to my own domain, from that of a deceased friend who had just created a layout for me using CMS Made Simple, which I haven't fully learned how to use yet and don't know anyone else that uses it to ask.

I just restored the backup from the old domain, and posted a news item...only for the new article to show up as having been posted by my friend, even though I was logged in as myself. His name does exist in the database, but as "inactive".

Why did this happen? How can I prevent it from happening again, and is there a way to fix the entry I just posted? Thank you...

Also, I'm trying to add another section to my layout, for affiliate link buttons. I created a global content block for this purpose (that is the right thing to do, right?), but am not sure how to properly insert it below my menu. Any advice will be greatly appreciated - if more information is required on anything I've posted about, please let me know.

If you change subjet, open a new topic.
For prev post, check if your userID is same of your inactive friend

For this, depend but yes in general:
if your section must be present in many templates or required sometimes a edit yes, if you use in a template ONLY and it's a html code but FIXED you can include in this template also

Ahh, sorry. I didn't want to clutter the forum, as I'm sure I'll have many questions while I figure things out.

No, my username is not the same as his, and the admin panel displayed that I was logged in as myself as well.

I'm not sure I understand...but there is only one layout present, I will likely need to edit it on occasion.

Thank you for the reply.

For example,
if I want to insert the google analytics code in one template ONLY, I can put this code directly in template;
if I have many templates and/or I change this code sometimes then is better to put in GCB and insert this in your templates

Ahh, I see, thank you. The GCB I created should be fine then, once I figure out the correct way to place it where I want it in the layout.

Still trying to figure both of these issues out. I was going to try just deleting his username, but it's not an option, I suppose because he set it up originally on the other site. However, I was the one to set up CMS Made Simple on the new domain...and it does have the option to delete me, though I have all permissions checked. Any news item I post still shows up as being him, though I am logged in as myself and the active user. Any other ideas of what I can do about this situation?

As far as inserting the new Global Content Block to the correct place beneath the menu, would it be appropriate to just stick the code for that GCB at the bottom of the code for the menu? I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, and I'm scared to mess with it.

Thank you again in advance for any help.

On further inspection, I suspect it is related to him having installed CMSms for me on the other domain (where this is backed up from) and me having installed it to my own. When I went to My Account, it showed his info instead of mine. I attempted to change the username, but presumably because my username already exists, there was an error.

I was able to fix the username issue by first changing my username, then by changing his username to mine. The problem apparently arose from him being the admin on the original install and me being the admin on the new install.

Still figuring out the other issue with the GCB, though.

depend to your layout, post your problem (with example or link) in Layout forum
