entire template displayed twice

i've successfully upgraded to version 1.5.3, however, all content, (top menu, content, footer) is displayed twice. once at the top and once again right underneath. 

i was upgrading from 1.3.1 and installed the cmsmadesimple-1.5.3-full version. 

any insight would be great.

Empty cache (you may have already done this after the upgrade). Then double check all the templates.

You can also create a new (simple) template to see if the behavior is only with existing templates or with all templates.

You should also double check that your CMSMS core files are of the right version.

After going through EVERYTHING, i finally noticed that there was no opening tag in the template. 

After adding the tag the template only displays one time now! finally.
