no content given in 1.0.2

For questions and problems with the CMS core. This board is NOT for any 3rd party modules, addons, PHP scripts or anything NOT distributed with the CMS made simple package itself.

A report without system information is worthless.
System Info was included in 1.4.x not for fun but to be used.

This is a real issue: I have had this problem in all versions of CMSMS from 1.0 onwards that I've used.

I've never solved it. Usually not touching the site for awhile, it seems to resolve, but that doesn't work for my clients :)

No error logs are ever produced.

It happens on many different hosting environments: windows, linux, etc. (yes, I run the CMS on a windows machine! for one client. It's crazy.)

I've even tried restoring a backup database to fix it.

The only thing that ever seems to fix it is time.

Would be nice to someday see why this is happening.

Systems I've had an error on:
Linux & Windows based CMSMS installs, from version 1.0 to 1.5.2

Solutions I've Tried:
Clearing cache
Changing File unmask
changing content type
using a different template
deleting/re-creating page
clearing cache by deleting files via FTP
setting entire site to 777
checking logs
turning debug on

None of this has worked. None of this has even shown a single error.

What has worked:
Waiting random time periods. Until it starts acting up again....

I also try using different machines/browsers, & that seems to work. I think it's an issue with the javascript breaking. However I haven't been able to test that.

Next time you get the error, try debugging the javascript if your browser supports it. The problem with this solution is it's typically my clients who see the error & they aren't running javascript debugging. The times it's happened to me I didn't think of it in time.

Bad hosting provider, isn't it ?

BTW, I'm not sure if you are writing about it : there was a big change in API in the 1.1 transition so a direct 1.0 to 1.5 jump isn't recommended. 1.1 (and may be 1.2) steps may be required.

No, I'm sorry, I mean no errors are thrown by that process :)

i am PRETTY sure it's a javascript issue. which is why errors are not generated.

I don't know much about javascript debugging, but it does seem to occur when--perhaps--the javascript hasn't loaded properly?

that's my personal theory

I think we should keep working on this here, in the forums, and maybe FAQ solutions taht worked?

the best one so far is, delete cache of browser, & close browser, & re-open browser to make edits. That seems to work most often.

If you can mange to reproduce this error/problem do it in Firefox with the Firebug addon, it has a way to see what went wrong with JS...

Good call, Mark

it's not game changing at all, really, but I just want to make sure we have a decent answer to give people looking for this problem--it seems to happen a lot!

How do we amend the FAQ?
Can I make a proposal?

Sorry, I spend too much time in government :D
