I have installed 1.5.2 with default content. I created a new home page and renamed it "home".
I renamed the original page called home to be "CMS Guide home" and it's parent is my new home page.
Even though the page hierarchy looks correct the navigation does not get updated and the original page hierarchy points to my new page. All I can do to remove the incorrect link on my new home page is to deactivate all the original pages. The breadcrumb display is also not correctly updated.

Re: Bread crumbs and site navigation
Check the alias of both pages, as the breadcrumbs and other logic, works on the alias. I think that your old page, that you renamed, holds 'home' as alias...

The breadcrumbs display appears as Home >> Home >> CMS Home >> Templates and stylesheets
The path should be Home >> CMS Home >> How CMS works >> Templates and stylesheets as per the page hierarchy
the parent paths and aliases have been checked

Maybe you look in template to see what it says in the breadcumb tag?...
