Just to understand - are you trying to install CMSMS on an iPhone or via an iPhone? It sounds like: install it on an iPhone. Can mySQL also be installed on an iphone? Can you be more precise on your setup?

I am trying to install on iphone. I cant get past the select language screen.

Mysql does not work as far as I know on iphone. but I can connect through IP on local network (wifi must be on to work)
CMSMS minimum requirements are all met except the mysql.

Basically I am thinking the php support someone made for the iphone is a stripped down version that is missing something. or even the apache?

It would be sweet if I could use it locally on my iphone. I know i can install on another computer then goto webpage but the iphone people, the iphone.

Could it be an integrity transfer problem ? Do you have an SSH server on your iPhone ? Have you checksumed ?

At first I thought the files were corrupt, I have not tried checksum. Edit: I can't get to the checksum check screen

I have ssh installed, and I have uploaded the files multiple times, but still get the error.

it has something to do with smarty, i think.
regular php sites work.

Why can't you reach the checksum screen ?
Do you have some http error log ?
I haven't understood this : do you have an SSHd server on your iPhone and have you uploaded through it ?
Which package are you trying to install ?

Just a thought... I'm not that bright when it comes to server configuration stuff, but I saw PHP is running as CGI, correct? Could that be the problem? Additionally I read: "Loaded Configuration File  (none)"  ... could that indicate, that the php.ini is not available?

Just a a few cents

Update:

I was using an old version of the ipod, version 1.1.4, I updated to version 2.2 today.

There is no Apache for 2.2 but Lighttp works great.

I have no GD support so I wont be able to install.
