I have some pre-installation post-installation questions. I am trying to find the CMS that would be best for me "out of the box".
I have a money saving website in Finnish that I currently run in Blogspot. It does not suit me well, because unlike in a blog, I normally never add articles or pages, I just update the current ones.
I have looked at Wordpress and it has some features that I love. However, it is a blog software and I feel like I would forcing it to be something else.
So, maybe some people here could be able comment on how difficult it would be to accomplish what I would like to CMSMS.
UPDATE: I made my choice and installed CMS Made Simple. Any help is still appreciated as I am trying to start building my site as per these specifications.
SITE STRUCTURE
My top navigational structure would be like this:
Home | Shopping | Utilities | Saving accounts | Travel | Insurance
Under Shopping, I would have subtopics like Grocery, Price comparison, Specific. Then, under this level would be the articles, for example "The best price comparison websites for electronics".
REQUIREMENTS
Requirement 1. When I would click on a main topic, like Shopping, I would like it to show me a page like this:
You are here: Home > Shopping
Shopping
Subtopics: Grocery, Price comparison, Specific
Grocery
Featured article 1 title
Featured article 2 title
Featured article 3 title
Price Comparison
Featured article 1 title
Featured article 2 title
Featured article 3 title
Specific
Featured article 1 title
Featured article 2 title
Featured article 3 title
I know I could accomplish this by manually editing the pages, but I am wondering whether this could be dynamically. Some Wordpress blog templates have an ability to add an extra parameter like "featured" to a blog post. Has this been done with CMSMS?
Requirement 2. When I would click on a subtopic, it would list the articles under that heading, with their description:
You are here: Home > Shopping > Grocery
Grocery
Article 1 title
Description of the article is here and it is a couple of lines long. Description of the article is here and it is a couple of lines long. Description of the article is here and it is a couple of lines long.
Article 2 title
Description of the article is here and it is a couple of lines long. Description of the article is here and it is a couple of lines long. Description of the article is here and it is a couple of lines long.
Article 3 title
Description of the article is here and it is a couple of lines long. Description of the article is here and it is a couple of lines long. Description of the article is here and it is a couple of lines long.
Article 4 title
Description of the article is here and it is a couple of lines long. Description of the article is here and it is a couple of lines long. Description of the article is here and it is a couple of lines long.
With Wordpress SEO kits, there is a possibility to add a short desciption of a blog post to be used at various places in templates. Does this exist in CMS MS?
Requirement 3. At the subtopic page, there would be a box like at the CMSMS website, that would say "In this section" and it would list the other subtopics in that section.
Here I am aiming for this exact thing: http://www.cmsmadesimple.org/about-link/about-us
Requirement 4. When I update a page, the "last updated" date of the page in Google XML Sitemap would change and would be sent to Google.
So, here is the thing I am aiming for. Would doing a site like this involve a lot of hacking and "forcing" CMS Made Simple to be something that it is not meant to be? Or would all of this be very much in the nature of the way things are done with CMS MS?
Thank you for any answers you can give me.
