XML Capabilities in the core.

Post by calguy1000 »

XML functionality has started to enter into the CMS Made Simple core. The first steps are in the module list. New buttons have been added to allow exporting of modules in XML format, and a form added to allow uploading and installing of XML modules.

This will allow administrators to share and install modules completely within CMS.

The ModuleRepository, currently in its infant stages will allow sharing of xml files and will allow for md5 signature validation.  Future versions will allow for automatic browsing, downloading and installing of xml modules from a remote repository.

These are exciting new features that will hopefully make everybody's CMS experience much easier. Anybody using the SVN version of CMS is encouraged to try exporting and importing modules. There are a number of XML modules already released on the forge.  Please feel free to drop in with your suggestions, questions, or to report any problems you're experiencing.

Thanks.

the daily from now didn't work right.

all modules i have copied in the folder modules are installed automatically - but i did not want that.

the sample pages are installed , i can edit it but nothing is displayed if i show the site (error 404)

so i can test nothing.

The auto install functionality is part of the module, and has to be turned off in order to not install, but I think that there should also be a site wide preference for this.

as far as pages, I'm not sure the xml stuff has anything to do with that.  it merely parses the xml and creates the module directory.  Or maybe I'm just not understanding you.

regarding the automatic install and upgrade, you are correct, I am installing or upgrading without user interaction, I'll change that so that there is a sitewide preference for it, or another checkbox on the form or something.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't find how to install an xml module. I've dropped it into the 'modules' dir, but there seems no facility in CMS to import anything. I'm using version 0.11.2.

Oh, and please... when is 0.12 coming out? Or a beta?

In 0.12 there will be a field at the bottom of the listmodules.php to allow you to read an xml module file

I have 0.12b and, while the functionality is there, it doesn't seem to work. I browse to the XML module I downloaded, check 'Automatically install...' and hit Submit, but: nothing. Am I wrong, or does this not work yet?

Hmmm.

Are you by chance doing an upgrade of an already installed module?

No, this is a new module; the banners module. I tried checking 'Overwrite' just in case, but still no luck.

The one character, and I mean it, one character (a period, . ,dot) that was needed to fix this stuff is checked into svn now.

don't know exactly when it happened, but now I'll have to upload new xml files for all my modules.

Could you tell me where that one character is so I can change it without installing a whole new SVN?
