"Could not save : 404 -- Not found" when updating pages

I have no idea why i'm getting this message when i change pages or templates and try to save/apply changes. the website is pulling up fine in the browser, etc. there don't seem to be any other issues. any ideas?

Check your error log for mod_security, it's very closed

Upgrade to newer version.....
Ask to your provider for look in your server logs

nothing in the error logs. does it help to figure out what is going on that this is now happening only when changing templates, but not when changing pages?
