How much to charge for a website done in CMSMS?

Post by jayp70 »

OK, not sure if this is the right place to ask this question so apologies from he onset. I’ve been dabbling with CMSMS for a while now and have been asked by a friend of a friend to help him with converting his site to CMS.

It’s just a basic website providing information about his business (insurance brokerage). He currently has 6 main headings and 3 sub headings under Services.

How much should I quote for this kind of work?

Simple. Just evaluate how much $ is your working hour. Let's say you charge $10/hour. Then evaluate how many hours it would take you to make that websites. Make simple math and you will get the price of your work.

That's the problem, he wants to know the cost up front. It'll probably take me about 10 hours as he's also looking for a basic user manual.

Would £200 be a realistic figure?

If you think your hour is worth £10, then the price is realistic.
For making a simple documentation you can use this document as a draft:

I was thinking of creating a bespoke manual with screenshots taken from their site rather than generic ones. Also, they are only interested updating pages so they won't really need to know the inner workings of the system.

Personally, I think that quote is very low. However, you know your market better than I.

Some things to think about/consider when evaluating a job...

What is the minimum wage in your country and are you worth more than that?
If you were working in an IT related business, what would your hourly rate be?
How many hours will you spend "up front" to create the site?
How many hours will you spend "after the fact" tweaking the site?
How many hours will you spend troubleshooting?

In my experience, the time required to do a job usually ends up being double, when I factor in the tweaking/troubleshooting.

Just my 2¢.
