  I was about to install the new cms on to my site, but I wanted to save space, so I've installed the english language onl (admin/langy. But before I proceed, will this affect my installation process?

No, that shouldn't cause any issues.  Just make sure that you remove the remaining .nls files in the admin/lang dir as well.
