Is it a security risk setting the required folders to writable?

What folders and writeable by who or what - not a very clear question!

CHMOD these directories to 777:

tmp
tmp/templates_c
tmp/cache
uploads
uploads/images
modules

You or the system or your users have to be able to write to some folders? Check out the documentation on securing your website and also within these forums for the optimum - generally the least privileges you can get away with.
