CMS 1.4.1 - cant make changes to files within modules folder

I uploaded the site thru an FTP program and have made modules folder writable but it still wont let me upload files that i am modifying... any ideas why?

ps. this module i installed AFTER i had made the folder writable... have tried to make just THIS particular module's folder writable and still... nothing...

module in question is "Calendar 0.8.2" and file i am trying to modify is "en_US.php"

i have restarted my computer... i have cleared the admin cache

Hosted or your computer, what is unmask set to?...

server os is, etc. etc.?...
