[SOLVED] Content will not update...

Post by n00t14 »

Hi all! I'm running CMS Made Simple version 1.2.4 Greenland and I'm having a bit of a problem. After editing a page in the admin console and then hitting "Apply" or "Submit"... the new changes/additions will not show up even after refreshing the page. I have tried clearing my history and still it will not show up. Now, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It will work the first couple times and then just stop. The changes display fine in the "Pages" section of the admin console it's just the live site. I think it only does this when I edit a page b/c every time I edit my stylesheet it seems to work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
n00t

This old, unsupported version has known security bugs. On the wild Internet you should run nothing but the latest official stable (1.4.1 today).
If your install is on the Net you may have be cracked.
Nobody can diagnose because you only tell us your version and nothing about the hosting context. For example, anything interesting in the http logS ?

Sorry about not including the server info... I know it is a Unix server that is running the latest versions of both MySQL and PHP. I didn't see anything interesting in the logs (I had to contact support to get that info). I've used cmsms many times and this is the first time it's done this. The weird thing is, it will "apply" the changes and then all of the sudden it will just stop working. Sometimes if I hit submit and then go back to the page the changes will take place on the live site after refreshing my browser. I don't know...

I'm going to upgrade to 1.4.1, this will be my first time upgrading cmsms. I found the steps for upgrading in the wiki and I'm making a backup of the site tonight.

Do I have to input my templates again and images after copying over the old version of cmsms?

Thanks for your help!

You just have to run the upgrade, all templates, content, etc. is in the DB, so no problem with them being hurt, but a backup of all folders and DB is always a good idea...

Ok I've upgraded cmsms and a couple things...

For some reason the background image I'm using for my site is showing up in the TingMCE editor... Not sure why it's doing that.

Also, I thought it fixed my original problem but it hasn't... sometimes it updates after I hit the apply button and sometimes I have to hit submit and then go back to the page and hit apply again and then refresh the page and the changes/additions will show up. So if anyone has any idea about how to fix this please let me know...

Do you think it could be a problem with the hosting company? I'm not sure b/c I'm not that familiar with backend stuff... The page is updated correctly in the admin console but on the live site sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

what browser are you running, any extensions? ad blocking extensions are known to stop some of the good stuff too.

I'm using Firefox and I don't have any ad blocking extensions. I do have their web developers tool bar installed and that's all. I'm thinking it has to be with the hosting company... I'm no server expert but I think that's what it is. The page updates in the admin section... just don't know.  :(

Should I try a clean install? If I leave the DB it will save all my info... like pages, stylesheets, templates, etc... right?

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Clean install is going to install the CMSMS and as long as you DON'T CREATE TABLES in that step it will leave all your stuff as is...

Yes if you are having some king of intermittent input problem it just may be your hosting, have you looked at what they are running on the server...

Yeah I've looked at their hosting company and I know their site is a Unix server and this is what they said it supports:

FTP
Shell programming environment:
Java development and applications
MySQL
PHP
AWStats Statistical Software
POP3 email
Web Control Panel
Site Builder Tool
CGI Scripting
Audio/video streaming
SSL Support
Shopping Cart
Online Catalog

Not sure if that helps or not... I'm going to contact their support today and see if they can help me out with this issue. Maybe there's a setting or something that I'm overlooking. The changes/additions are working it's just a pain sometimes to get them to show up. I'll let you guys know what support says...

On a side note... What stylesheet controls the TingMCE editor? My background image is showing up in the part where you input text... Sorry for all the problems...

Thanks again!

Well I just spoke to their support and I got the answer that I knew I was going to get... They don't support outside software and the guy didn't know what a cms was or how it works so it was pointless...

I'm at a loss guys I just don't know what to do...  :(

Re: Content will not update and stylesheet problems 1.4.1

Post by n00t14 »

Ok now I have a huge problem...

All of the sudden after upgrading to 1.4.1 my stylesheets are no longer working... they are still there along with all the pages and images form the DB but the site is messed up.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

I think after this I'm just going to leave this site alone!  :)

OK if you upgraded you now have a system info page under Site Admin if you look it will tell you if everything is ok, and it does have a link in upper right corner to get a way to have some thing you could paste here for us to see...

Hmmm did it give more than this when you viewed it, mine shows folder/file permissions which I was able to use for trouble shooting an install for client, it had red X where it needed changing...
