How to do local install into MAMP?

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

How to do local install into MAMP?

Post by susiegb »

I'm new to cmsms (and cms's in general really!) I did play with Joomla and managed to do a local install into MAMP quite easily, but now that I want to use cmsms I just can't figure out how to do that. Doing the same thing as for a local Joomla install (installing the unzipped cmsms folder into the MAMP htdocs folder) didn't work.

So, how do I do this? I'm using a Mac, 10.3 and have MAMP 1.7.1 installed ...

thanks

What error do you get? Where does it fail? CMSMS works well on the windows variant of MAMP, XAMPP

OK, well in the instructions I was following for installing Joomla into MAMP (!), it said to put the unzipped Joomla folder into the HTDocs folder of MAMP. Then to go to the MAMP page you get when you log in (http://localhost:8888/MAMP/?language=English) and change it to 'http://localhost:8888/MAMP/Joomla_1/ins ... /index.php'  When I substituted 'cmsmadesimple' for Joomla, the URL  didn't work.

Of course now even the Joomla URL doesn't work ... sigh!  MAMP is installed properly because I get that start page.

Any clues on what I'm supposed to do?

I did look at the documentation, but I didn't understand it. It seemed to be all about uploading to the web server and I'm just wanting to do a local install so I can play with it before actually doing a site in this ...

thanks

Have you tried localhost:80/MAMP/your cmsms folder/  ?...

Most times when you do a fresh install you don't even have to call the install folder...

Well I tried that but ...

When I tried 'http://localhost:80/MAMP/cmsmadesimple' I got a 'failed to connect' msg - Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost.

When I tried http://localhost:8888/MAMP/cmsmadesimple, I got the following error msg:

"Not Found
The requested URL /MAMP/cmsmadesimple was not found on this server.
Apache/2.0.59 (Unix) PHP/5.2.5 DAV/2 Server at localhost Port 8888"

That is the folder it's in, and it's unpacked, have you tried calling the install/ folder?...

Tried that. Got the same 'not found' msg.

Could it be because there are a couple of Joomla test sites there too, do you think? (In the MAMP htdocs folder I mean?) Am I supposed to make some changes in phpMyAdmin or something? Set up another database?

I'm not a MAMP user, I'm using XAMPP - it's available for Mac too

http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-macosx.html

On XAMPP the path to run is

http://localhost:8888/cmsmadesimple

All folders in htdocs can be accessed via localhost/foldername

If this will not work you can try a direct install call

http://localhost:8888/cmsmadesimple/install/index.php

Oh, thanks so much! (I did try XAMPP earlier when I was trying out Joomla, but had a few problems). And yes, you're right. The mistake I've been making is including  'MAMP' in the URL!!

How stupid ... Never mind, I can now get on with trying out cmsms!! (And the next load of questions!!)

Thanks a lot ...

cheers
