[NO HELP AVAILABLE] DETAILED instructions needed for changing hosts

Post by slloyd »

I am aware of the basic instructions for changing hosts (moving site to a new host) provided under "Documentation", but what I need is detailed, step-by-step instructions as I cannot, for the life of me, understand SQL databases and how they work.

Does anyone have detailed instructions they'd like to share? It would be greatly appreciated!

"detailed" instructions kinda depend upon what type of host you're moving from and to.. for instance, a server or vps with root access and no web-based tools or control panel will differ greatly from a typical cpanel-powered host...
eternity (n); 1. infinite time, 2. a seemingly long or endless time, 3. the length of time it takes a frozen pizza to cook when you're starving.
4,930,000,000 (n); 1. a very large number, 2. the approximate world population in 1986 when Microsoft Corp issued its IPO. 3. Microsoft's net profit (USD) for the quarter (3 months) ending 31 March 2007.

detailed instructions on how to move from this host to that host, and what buttons to click in your ftp client or in the control panel, etc. and how exactly to transfer the files are probably out of the realm of what we can support.

and are fortunately supported by their respective publishers : FTP software, SQL tool, OS, hosting service... all have their own site and own support. And the Internet has free howtos just a google away. The web is a knowledge mine and bots mine for us.

Yeah, I've tried that. In fact, that's where I looked first. I don't understand it. It may as well be another language. Thanks anyway.

Think there could be written a lot of pages about your question.

But sometimes it's faster to ask for commercial help here or help with a little donatation ;) ...

By the way - you dont need a big knowledge about SQL to move a CMSms install. You have only to find out how to create a new database and how to export / import them in different panels.

Exactly. That's the part I don't know how to do (importing/exporting). I guess I'll just keep trying until I figure it out.

For import/export of databases I'm using MySQLDumper.

Makes it a lot easier :) ...
