So far I used Joomla 1.5.x. That is a bit too complicated for my editors to use, so now I am exploring CMSMS and it looks quite good.
However there is something I miss: a clear location of files connected to a template: php, css, js, graphics.
I installed some extra templates to see what happens.
Tempate 'flowered' came in a zip file. Zip files cannot be imported, so I unzipped it to
uploads/images/templates/flowered/. You have to manually make a template file and a stylesheet by copy/pasting the content of the unzipped files in CMSMS. The graphics are recognised at the used location.
TerraFirma and GrassStains came as xml file that could be imported. I only found contained graphic files that landed at a different location:
uploads/TerraFirma/ and uploads/GrassStains. Not a very logical location!
For these templates I cannot find where I can change stuff like headings as there is no css file.
Also those templates don't have their own php (in CMSMS it is name tpl) file.
In Joomla this is all organised very simple: each template has its own folder with subfolders for all relevant files.
I would like to make a site with my own template and this strange organisation makes that quite difficult.
How can you make your own template and where should I put the files?

Re: Location of template files
CMS Stores all content, stylesheets, and templates in the database. This saves people (editors and designers that have problems with things like file transfers) from having to think about permissions, etc.
There is a user interface for all of this in the admin.

Re: Location of template files
You can find the templates, html part, in Layout » Templates, click the name of template to edit it, click orange CSS icon to right to see attached stylesheets and/or add another stylesheet, here you can also click name of CSS to edit it...
You can see style sheets/CSS in Layout » Stylesheets, click name of stylesheet to edit it, click orange CSS icon to see template/s it's attached to or attach it to another template, here you can also click name of template to edit it...
At the bottom of both of these places is a link to add Template/Stylesheet...
Images that go to templates are best put in a folder in uploads, like done when importing template, so when someone is editing a page they don't see images that should just be for template like the header image...
Images used in pages when editing go in uploads/images which is where the wysiwyg editor looks when adding images to page, you can put them in another folder in uploads/images/ that will be available when adding images to a page in edit mode..
This CMS has the most logical structure of any I've used, you may just be used to another, but this is the closest you'll get to having a CMS structured like a static HTML site...
Guess after years of doing HTML/CSS static sites I'm used to this set up... joomla drove me crazy...

Re: Location of template files
Hello Mark
I think I'll have to get used to how style and templates matters are organised in CMSMS. However loads/images/ doesn't make sense with me for uploading template stuff. On the other hand, if only the graphic stuff is used at this location and the rest goes to the database, there might be some sense in it....
Maintaining the site is much easier than with Joomla, so I'll explore CMSMS further. I also like the option for more than one template in one site, so each part can get its own style. I need to vary colours and heading image. Layout stays consistent.

Re: Location of template files
Yes uploads/images should be for things that go in pages and uploads/theme or uploads/template name folder for all images that pertain to the template layout is imho the best way... but that's just mho...
