Developer Community Site?

Talk about writing modules and plugins for CMS Made Simple, or about specific core functionality. This board is for PHP programmers that are contributing to CMSMS not for site developers

Developer Community Site?

Post by Ted »

I'm toying with the idea of setting up this: http://gforge.org/

Basically, gforge is a sourceforge.net type system that would allow us to host developers of modules and other things related to CMSMS directly on the dedicated server that runs cmsmadesimple.org.

However, I'd only want to go through the trouble of setting this thing up if I knew people were going to use it.  It looks like it's a lot of work and I wouldn't want to go though the pain if it would sit idle.

It would be nice to have all of the module development going on right in a centralized location so that people can find an easy place to look for it.  It would also possible spark some interest in people that might not have developed something before.

Thoughts?

I loved joomlaforge.org so i'm sure this. It seems to have all the parts we need subversion, files release, news, etc. I'm all for it.

I think this is a great idea! It may take some time for module developers and translators to get used to, but with time I think it would be beneficial for the development of CMSMS to have such a central place for the developer community.

But also in a short-term perspective this would encourage the development of modules, as well as translations of those modules. It's also easier to give feedback to the module developers (=feature requests & bug reports) and for anyone to add patches to existing modules.

And as Wishy rightly points out, it is likely to make more people interested in contributing to module development, which the entire CMSMS community would benefit from.
