I killed my search function: how to restore it?

Post by Klassiekerrally »

I killed my search function (and almost my complete website) by installing the newer search function.
My complete site went white! By disabling the search function I managed to get the site online again, but a few attempts in restoring the old search function (that came with CMSMS 1.2) failed :(

Is there an easy way to get it back, the old version won't install and the newer version just doesn't seem compatible with 1.2.

Updating CMSMS isn't an option: I just don't have the knowledge to do that.

Some data:
website: http://www.klassiekerrally.nl
version: CMSMS 1.2
my computer: iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core  Duo running on OSX 10.4.11
webserver: not sure, but I think it's running on Windows something...

Please help!

1) Upgrade your site ASAP to 1.2.5
2) Uninstall Search (it's harmless, except you may have changed a template or two, you may want to copy these first).
3) Remove the files you currently have
4) Put the from the cmsmadesimple-1.2.tar.gz/modules/Search back into /modules/Search
5) Install Search from Extensions >> Modules
6) Go into the search module interface and re-index all content

BTW: if your page went white, there's an error someplace
It'd be useful for you, me, andothers, to see what the errors are in your httpd error logs
or what happens when you turn debug mode on, etc. etc.

BTW, the exact same version of Search will be included with CMS 1.3

Thanks calguy, but it's the upgrading I 'fear': I just don't know how to make a verified backup. As a matter of fact I can't even see the database :(
So it's not that I don't want to upgrade, I'm afraid to loose all data in my website...

What you described as a solution for the search function doesn't work with my current CMSMS. Installing 'search' doesn't work.

Well, if you don't know how to get a backup, you're in bigger trouble than the Search module

There are security issues that have been fixed in most of the versions subsequent to 1.2

so I suggest you contact your host, and figure out how to do a backup.... or you're gonna learn the hard way :)

I guess downloading all the files via FTP isn't enough?

I'll contact my host and ask if they can do the upgrade for me. Thanks again for your reply.
