[SOLVED] CMSMS Help!

Post by AtomicAge »

So, I've had a site running 1.2.3 for the past 5 months.... and today, it just shows "Navigation", when you go to the site.

All of the files are still there via FTP, and you can still login to the admin... but everything show up as:

"--Add me... blah blah"

The DB is still on the host.. and the config file is still correct.

Please help!

Can you give us a link to the site, so we can see what's happening?

Either your db is corrupt, or you're missing a lot of the core files. Since you said that you checked to see if the files were there, and they were, I'd be checking your db with phpMyAdmin, or some other db tool, to see what's actually in the db.

Do you have a .htaccess file? Has it been compromised?

Also, the only stylesheet that is attached is the Album external css file, which leads me to believe that your db is definitely corrupt.

Did your host update MySQL recently?

Nullig -

Everything seems to be there. I was able to login to the DB and export it.

I contacted the client's host, and they are flashing everything back to last week. Once they do that, I'll be sure to export the DB again, and backup the files via FTP.

Since there's a newer version of CMSMS, does this sound like a problem that could have occurred because of the security issue?

Arrrrrgh.

Possibly.

Have you looked through your db to see if there's anything fishy?
Or your http logs?

Honestly, I wouldn't notice anything fishy.... unless it was blatantly obvious. I'm more a designer than developer.

I just hope it restores via the host. If they did in fact, upgrape MySQL or something similar.. is there any easy fix?

If they're restoring from a backup, then they probably haven't upgraded MySQL.

Wait and see what happens...

Sooooooo...

Here's where I'm at...

I talked to the host. They have NOT updated MySQL or anything else for that matter. My client knows for a fact, that the site was up and running when she did an update to a page on 05/09. Everything was fine. I had the host restore the contents from 05/08 (all files and DB). This did not work. So, at this time, they are going to restore from 05/05 (which is the furthest back they have).

I asked them if I had to re-edit any of the file/folder permissions, and he told me no. My question to the CMSMS community, is this:

If the host is doing nothing, but replacing all of the files in the directory with the previous versions, and as well, replacing the DB... what do I need to do on my end? I'd assume that it would be the same as moving the site from one server to another? Right?

You guys are definitely my life line, as my head is spinning. Please advise.

I must admit that my biggest fear of running a CMS, was DB corruption or certain files being compromised... especially when I'm not the one taking care of periodic backups or administering the site.  >:(

If they restore the files and db back to 5/5 and it was working then, there shouldn't be anything you need to do, aside from adding any content that was entered between then and now - it should just work.

I guess my confusion, was looking at other posts in regards to the "template_c" folder and cache. I noticed the template_c folder, was loaded with a ton of files that are all named with various variables.

I guess I should probably sit down and spend a good day reading the documentation on EVERYTHING.

I'll let you know what happens.

Once you have the files restored, you can delete everything in the tmp/cache and tmp/template_c folders.

Reading the docs would be a GOOD thing.

I read enough to get it up and running.. and read enough to know what to edit and change so things would work. As far as KEEPING it up and running smoothly... well... that's where I'm at now.

Seriously.. thanks a lot for your help on this. It was a big switch for me to start running a CMS because of this very reason, and it's a lot easier knowing that there's a community to help with problems.

Yes, it was the community that first drew me here. Before I started using CMSMS, I read through the forums to get a feel for it, and was impressed.

Hopefully, things will work out OK from the backup. The main thing is not to panic, as you're more liable to make hasty, undesirable decisions, which just make matters worse. Better your site is down for a couple of hours, while you research, than a couple of days, while you rebuild.
