How do I access non-default templates?

Post by pwarwick »

I'm very much a newbie and am trying to figure out how to use ShopMadeSimple. However, since there isn't any documentation I am having difficulties. The main problem is that I can see the templates in the installation directory but I do not know how to select them when I am attempting to create a new page. The only templates that are visible are the default ones. Is there something special I need to do to select a non-default template?

If you haven't added any new templates in Layout » Templates Add New Template or thru the Layout » Theme Manager import tab then only default templates will show...

You can get more themes/templates here... http://themes.cmsmadesimple.org/Full_Themes.html

You mentioned ShopMadeSimple and templates in new pages, the templates in the ShopMadeSimple are just for it not the "Pages"...

I'm even more confused by your reply. ??? 'm not looking for more themes/templates ... How do I use ShopMadeSimple if not by using the templates? I installed both ShopMadeSimple and CartMadeSimple but have not been able to figure out how to use the templates. I believe I installed them properly but I may well not have.

OK from the Shop made simple...

You can mess with the templates from the Templates tab, but unless you know what your doing it may not be a good idea...

    * (optional) catname="" - Name of category. Must exactly match. If left blank, the products from the root category will be shown.
    * (optional) display="" - Specifies the type of display you want to show. There are currently two available:
o categorylist (default) - shows a list of the categories and the number of products within category.
o productlist - show products from a named category.
    * (optional) lang="en_US" - Parameter is used to specify what language to use for display on the frontend. Not all modules support or need this.

From Cart MS...

{cms_module module='CartMadeSimple' template='tinybox'}

Apparently it will default to normalbox template if not specified, the rest are for other things that happen when the cart is used same for shop m. s....

You need FEU and the other templates in CartMS cover how it looks to the Users who are logged in to shop...

You will have to make items available and set up the other parameters these modules use like items, prices, quantity, categories, etc. etc. before you get a better idea how it works, I installed them just to try and answer these ?'s haven't used it for anything...

I've tried all that ... that is why I posted this question.

pwarwick,

From what I read from your questions I can only answer that Shop Made Simple contains a number of templates (4 in version 0.1.3). Since you don't mention the version I take it that you mean that version. There is no way at this moment to select another template besides the ones loaded during installation. It is up to you to change them or not.

In Cart Made Simple the default template is 'normalbox'. You will be able to get a different lay out when you use:
{cms_module module='CartMadeSimple' template='[template name]'}. The template name between brackets should be one that you have prepared earlier and can be located in the tab 'Cart Templates'. The default template function is not working up to version 0.1.3.

PS. Next time: either mention the module in the thread subject or post your question in the 'Forums' or 'Tracker' part of the forge.

I posted my question to this forum because I thought I was asking a general question ... although it was specific to the Cart and ShopMadeSimple. There was reference to there being templates for these add-ons (although I may have misunderstood what was meant) and I could not see anything other than the default templates. Anyway, I have version of 0.1.0 of both add-ons, so I'll download the current versions to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks,
Patricia
