I'm having the exact same problem as you are. Sometimes the pages will load quickly, sometime they will take 10-20 seconds. It's erratic.

then

I agree with others, it must be our host's mysql. Is there any way to benchmark it? I think I may have to move to a VPS and configure it myself otherwise.

Small update:

I called up my Host yesterday and complained about the long loading time. They checked the server and confirmed that the server it was on is a very old server that was being replaced very soon. I asked them to put my site on a new and fast server. I haven't had alot of time to test it yet. But from what i've seen today everything is running nice and smooth. Getting 0.1 sec load times :-)

So if you have the same problems as me i'd suggest you contact your host and ask them what kind of server your site is on. I know alot of the cheaper hosts tend to fill up their servers...maybe a little too much. Or you could be on an old outdated one like me.
The server i was on was an old php 4 one. They also upgraded me to php 5 but. Not sure if that matters as they said it shouldn't affect the speed anyways.

Anyway, very glad to see that it's not a cmsms problem...atleast not for me. Which still allows webnoobs like me to design proffessional webpages. :-)
