Adding users help

I'd like to add users for them to be able to edit one page, or add their comments. The situation is that I added a betting picks section to the page, and I'd like to allow few friends to add their picks on that page.
So I'd appreciate any help toward achieving this.
I tried adding a user, but I can't login with details I created via admin login page. Is there a different way of logging in for users perhaps?
And after I've created a user I couldn't find a way to choose which group he belongs to.

P.S. I am running 1.1.3.1 version.

You can't login via admin page or frontpage? You can login via admin page only if you create user via admin login page.

And after I've created a user I couldn't find a way to choose which group he belongs to.

Users & Groups > Group Assignments

P.S. I am running 1.1.3.1 version.

I can't login with new user details via admin page. User was created from admin panel.
And I can see Users & Groups > Group Assignments, but I still don't know which group this new user belongs to, so doesn't help me much. I had no group option to choose from when I was creating new user.

I don't have login form on main page. Not sure if that is because of a skin, but I don't remember having one when it was on default skin.

Is there something in the settings I could do get it back ?

Step for create new user:
- Go to Users & Groups > Users and create new user
- Go to Users & Groups > Group Assignments and select group of this new user
- Check the new user for this group

In admin folder only. You have a login form in public part with FrontEndUser module (but this users are separated of admin part)

Thanks alby, I got it now. New user can login now that I've assigned it to a group.
