That I have tried a few times already. the row/record is affected correctly but I still cant gain access. Somewhere I read that the host could have changed a pswd or cache file that could cause this issue.
Any other suggestions?

well, after taking a few stabs in the dark i did get the site online again after updating the password in config.php and creating a new pswd on the hosts php username.
now there is just the issue with logging into the cmsms control panel.

thanks for the advice. right now im leaning pretty hard on the host to provide a worthy backup but they are just about useless. the site is: i am not seeing a way to clear cache in the control panel. i feel that moving forward with an update at this point may complicate the issue, right? maybe best ...
