you could try this;

set your modules folder to 777CHMOD, try installing again.
when installed set te folder back to 755.

good luck

Am I right you've tried to use module manager?

If yes try to upload modules via ftp and install then. If module exists only as xml file use a local server like xampp (http://www.apachefriends.org) and install it there. Now it's possible to take all module files and copy it via ftp.

It doesn´t help, I get -- Add me -- messages all over when I try that. I don´t what that indicates...

when is the error message coming up?

when you are in de modules tab, is there a message saying your permissions are wrong ?

When I try to install, for instance Calendar, i get:
Error!

Could not create a file (permissions problem?) ********/new/cms/modules/Calendar/templates/settings.tpl
When I try install via XML file:
Could not create a file (permissions problem?) ********/new/cms/modules/Calendar/templates/settings.tpl (Troubleshooting)
When FTP-upload:
--Add Me - module:Calendar string:install_postmessage--
PHPINFO

Make sure modules/Calendar/lang/ and all files/folders in it are present (maybe upload again?) and readable by the webserver.

I see safe mode is on I had a problem with that once, i hate safe mode.

Upload you module with FTP, check all new folders if they are 755 and all the files 644. So not only the main module folder but also everything underneath.

I still get the:
--Add Me - module:Calendar string:install_postmessage--

Couldn´t find a reasent .tar.gz version of cataloger so I uploaded an old one and got nothing but a white screen and:
Fatal error: Class catalogitem: Cannot inherit from undefined class cmsmodulecontenttype in /home/jln.se/www/new/cms/modules/Cataloger/Cataloger.module.php on line 393
This is why i´m willing to pay someone to fix this, i´m getting a little desperate.

Well paying for it isnt the issue  I think its your hosts security that causes the troubles.

On your phpinfo i saw "This server is protected with the Suhosin Patch 0.9.6
Copyright (c) 2006 Hardened-PHP Project"

I`m not familiar with the hardened-PHP Project so i am not sure if thats what causing you these problems. But since its with 2 modules which both work fine with other people incl. myself thats the only thing i can think of when your chmod is done correctly.

So if you have an oppertunity to try the at another host, i would try that if I were you.

OK, so I installed CMSMS and the other modules I wanted on another host - no problem at all!

Seems that it´s the other host has got to hard restrictions. I hate explaining this to the customer though!

Thanks all!

glad to see things all work out! :)

It can, indeed, be hard too explain to clients sometimes that they need another host. Just tell them if they want a good CMS, they gotta have a good host  ;D
