CMS Made Simple and XHTML

Hi folks, i am new here and have an ardent question about CMS Made Simple.

What`s about the XHTML conformity of CMS Made Simple? I have made some checks with various sites, running CMS Made Simple, from the "show off" threads and put them into http://validator.w3.org/check? .

shows "This page is not Valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional!"

I`ve tested some other Portal-software like joomla, mambo, typo3 etc., etc., but either they lack of flexibility (e.g. user / permission management / easy template generation) or they are a simple complete overkill for my tasks.

So said, i am hard working and just making some fun stuff in my spare time, for which i want an easy to install, manage and use cms with a good picture / gallery component and quite fair on the fly layout possibilties for main page etc. -> sth. like a kind of "electronic newspaper style" - mixed pics and text with flexible placement.
And - most important - i want a (full) XHTML compatibility.

What do you think? Is CMS Made Simple the right "stuff" for my needs? Or are there "known restrictions" etc., which one has to bear in mind?

As far as i saw, CMS Made Simple does look good and appeals a lot to me - but it is 07:47 in the morning here and i have to get ready for going to work . Maybe some CMS Made Simple experts can help me a bit with my decision?

I want it too  ... normally CMSms is a xhtml CMS.

Please make a look at a CMS made simple default installation like here and you will see - CMSms is xhtml valid per default. But on my daily support I see that xhtml validity is not important for people  . Many users your've seen in show off are "only" users, not webdeveloper. And it have something to do with the used editor and his preferences.

For instance my favourite editor is TinyMCE. If you want to use this module you have to insert some source published omTinyMCE Homepage. The default editor FCK has a button inside admin panel for xhtml validity.

The line that the Markup Validation Service complains about is not part of CMSMS it was inserted by opensourcecms.com, the default install is Valid XHTML...

Thank you a lot cyberman & mark!! Just came home from work and thought to check in here.

Your postings sound good ! Before i went off towards work this morning, and after my initial posting, i made one more test with another site running CMSms and that one was valid. But i hadn´t time to "investigate" it further.

Sitting in the car and driving to the office i thought a little bit about ^^ and my guess was, that maybe (as you pointed out) "third party code" messed up validity.
I have noticed that also with other cms, whcih i have tested so far. Now, after your nice answers and with the weekend giving me some spare time, i am going to test CMSms a little bit further. I hope to see, if it will suit my (basic) needs and how it "feels" and "llooks" on my server.

To this point, I would like to add that it's great to work with markup that sets such a high bar for quality and accuracy.  I am a lot less likely now to be sloppy with my own markup and my css is also much, much better!

As Mark and Cyberman have well said, the default sample content of CMSms is XHTML valid and the product is designed for standard conformance. This is great, thanks to the devs.

And it is even better : the validity depends more on your templates than on CMSms. You are free to make a valid site your way. It is the template that makes the web dialect. You may have one producing XHTML 1.0 and another XHTML1.1. And another 2.0 when the W3 will release it. By tweaking the template you can achieve CMSms' promise :
"Want to use table layouts? Fine!
Want to do pure XHTML/CSS? Fine!
Wanna mix 'em up? Fine! No problem."

I think you could even have templates produce (valid) PDF or... MP3 !-)

I havn't been able to check the latest version but I hope modform.inc.php is fixed. Otherwise forms which use this class will not be valid XHTML strict?
