Are the CMS templates really fixed width?

I am looking for a simple[ish] CMS system and CMSmadesimple seems about the rightlevel for what I want.
I have it installed and working but the first thing that really hits me is that everything appears in a rather narrow column
down the middle of my browser window. OK, my screen is 1600x1200 but that's surely hardly extreme nowadays. It means
that CMS pages are occupying only half the width of my screen.
Are there any templates that 'flow' to use the browser window to the full?
Or am I missing something rather obvious?

I'd be guessing that you're using Internet Explorer then?
Using Firefox or a better browser than you are using, the templates are liquid, but in IE it's harder to achieve this.
Otherwise, you can edit the templates and make them stretch to fit, but then you will get some other problems.
There are many tutorials on the t'internet telling you how to do this....
Oh, and whilst you feel that your screen resolution isn't extreme, over 90% of visitors to my site are at 1024*768
or LOWER!

Sounds like you've come to the right place.

I don't use the default templates on my site:

It's very easy to convert most any template to CMSMS format.
Video walk through here:

There are also some themes here:

Hope this helps,
Elijah

No, I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.7 on Slackware Linux (which I know isn't quite the latest now that 2.x is out, but I haven't
got around to upgrading it yet).
Whatever, I'm certainly not seeing the 'liquidity'.
BTW I don't tend to run my browser full screen so I expect I'd appear to your site as something like 1200x1024 or thereabouts.
Even with my browser set that size I have two wide empty margins either side of the cmsmadesimple content. I see exactly the same on this forum.

OK, I can 'fix' the problem by setting the max-width: parameter much larger, however I don't really understand why it isn't set large to start with. Is there any disadvantage to setting it larger?

Hiya,
Firefox should run it fine, you can always set the max width as a percentage (say 95%)
Problem is that the default templates are meant to satisfy most users, and like I said most users have screens under
yours...
I think you would need to tweak the templates to your liking, plus Firefox 2 is a nice update
