Trouble installing the Calendar module v. 0.7.7 (and other versions as well)

What happens when i try to install the module via an .xml file or via the ModuleManager is that i get this error:
Could not create a file (permissions problem?) *******/new/cms/modules/Calendar/templates/settings.tpl
Permissions for the modules folder is set to 755 which should be enough.
When I upload and install the module manually, I get
--Add Me - module:Calendar string:install_postmessage--
I understand that this happens when a language file is missing, but i´m using english as the default language.
I have tried installing other modules with no problems at all.
I´m running CMSMS version 1.0.2
PHP version 4.4.4-0 running on Linux system
MySQL version 4.1.15

I've had similar problems. However, I managed to fix them somehow but can't add events. I fill out the form and click "Add" but nothing is added and now error message is displayed.
I recommend not upgrading to 0.7.7 -- at least not yet. I'm going to see if I can revert to 0.7.6

Have you tried setting (unmask) to 002 or 000 or blank?...
Site Admin > Global Settings...

When in doubt, go to the manual
Found this in the "Install.txt" in the Doc directory:
optionally, if you would like to be able to install modules via the admin panel:
- chmod 777 modules
So, sounds like this might be the problem(?)

Nothing I try seem to work.
I have chmoded the modules folder to 777, I have unmasked with 002 and 000. I have also checked that the disk isn´t full and other modules seem to work fine. It´s just this module, no matter what version.

I think it has something to do with that my host hasn´t set ini_set() to writable (or something like that)..
I upgraded to version 1.04 but no change for the better.
Any ideas? I´m willing to pay someone to fix this as the projekt runs out of time.

The only sollution I found is to get the host to set "ini_set()" to OFF.
Now everything runs smoothly again...

Thank you, I will try getting them to do it!
Does anyone else have a way to turn it to off without interacting with the host?
