Is it possible to print the menu text like you do with {title} ? i tried {menu} and {menu text} with just errors thrown up

No, that doesn't exist. It is a good idea, though. I'll put it on my TODO list.

i have added it to content.functions.php for now and it seems to be working fine, thanks
