Any trick or secret to have multilingual site ?

Hi all,

Is there any trick to have a multilingual website after installation ?

How can I use CMSMS to build a site both in english and French ?

I tried installing the multilang module in zip forrmat.I unzipped it and copied it into the module folder but it could not work.

I though about creating all the pages in english and in french but I do not yet know the hint to make the automatic links be created fot the second version of pages.I mean I thought about creating for each page, its corresponding in french, and removing it from the menu, but I cannot yet see how to automatically link the pages of the 2nd language.

Or I have seen so many websites built here with 2 or more languages, so please could you help me out with using the multilanguage feature ?

Thanks in advance.

Did you install the multilingual module in the control panel before you copy it in the folder (You don't mention it) ?

As Cyberman has said, try katon's MLE build or wait for the Multi Language Extension to be in core (v1.1 or later).

Hi all,

Thanks for your quick replies about my worry.

The mulilang module cmsms-mle-1.0.2-build4.zip is a zip file, or the module import accepts only xml files.

Reading through the forum, I got a reply like if the module is but in a zip format, we need to unzip it into a folder and copy that folder in our cmsms module folder.I did this for the comments module and some others which are working well, but for the cmsms-mle-1.0.2-build4.zip, it could not work.

That is why I am requesting help.

Any suggestion or help i highly awaited and appreciated .

Thanks in advance

It's a complete CMSms install for multiple languages, not only a module :).

Hi all,

Dear Cyberman looks like you master the multilanguage feature in CMSMS. So if I want to use it for a site already installed and running with CMSMS version 1.0.2 how do I proceed ?

Do I make a fresh install of that multilanguage pack on another server ? And from there how do I proceed.

To cut it short, how can I install and use the multilanguage pack without being obliged to redo all the website ?

Thanks for your reply

You export everthing you created (templates, modules, content blocks) and create a backup of your database.

Then you import all that stuff back into the 2nd installation.

Here's a way to bi-liguality only from a certain page-tree structure, templates and CSS: http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.ph ... =7658.new;

Try it like visitor said but I suggest you should check this "sidegrade" on a (local) playground before.

Hi all,

I did tried the cmsms mle installation pack on a local server using easy PhP.In the installation I saw flags and could choose the languages I needed.
In my content pages I could see the flags and edit the pages independantly, but when I view the site, it has only the texts and modifications in the latest language.

There is no flag there and no way for the person viewing my site to know that there is another version, no flag appearing.

Did I miss something or is there any other modification, something to touch and configure to have the flags displayed on the site or even a link to show that there is another version available ?

Dear cas,I followed the link you gave and could really admire the nice implementation it is excately what I need for this site

http://judwan.freehostia.com/appta/index.php?page=home

Now the question is how do I manage to get there. You talk about a peculiar page structure, template and css...Practically, step by step how do I go about to implement it.

Thanks in advance for you replies

Have you insert {lang} tag in your template?

Hi all,

Cyberman, I have just installed the cmsms mle build 4 on a webserver and my installation goes through without problem.

But this time I see no flag, no place to choose the languages as I had when installing the build 3 on my local easy php server.

When I view the site, no language option.

As you said, I entered the {lang} tag on my template and still no language option but instead the message " languages not set " as you can see here http://appta.freehostia.com/appta/ .

Where do I set the languages in the cmsms mle build 4 ?

PS: there was no read me file in the cmsms mle - build 4 with any specific recommendation as concerns the installation.

Thanks for your quick reply

Hi all,

I redid the installation of cmsms mle build 4 and this time around , i did not check the option " install default content and templates", onlythen I could have the option to choose the multilanguage feature and flags...

Then I entereg the {lang} tag on my template and I can have my flags.

Is is OK for the multilanguage feature, now the only question I have is :

- How do I proceed to have my content block be translated too
- Is there no way to upgrade a site working with one language into a multilanguage site without having to redo everything ?

Thanks for your replies and quick support !

If you go to menu content > pages in admin panel you'll see your Pages and flags in rows. You have only to click a flag on page row you wanna translate.

Note that CMSmsMLE is an inofficial version. There's no module which can do that for you. The only way I see is to compare databases (CMSms and CMSmsMLE). Then you will find out the differences and can manipulate CMSms database via phpmyadmin manually so it looks like an CMSmsMLE database. If I'm right you have only to add some table columns.
