Hi all ,
Since i discovered this wonderful CMS on OpensourceCMS, I have been discovering and developping on a local server with Easy PHP . Permanent Internet connexion is still an issue here in Africa...
Since Friday, I am trying to transfer all my work online but I can't succeed.
Yesterday I succeeded to have clean install on the webserver, but when I try to transfer my files and templates...what I had already done, it is not working.
This is what I did in detail:
1-Downloaded the latest version of CMSMS version 1.0.2 and foolowed the step for the installation and got the success mesage.
2-Via FPT i copied the files(all the cms made simple folder) of my local installation to the new server, I got some messages like the file already exist...and I choose replaced
3-After the copy, my site still look the standard installation
4-Did the backup of my databases and restored it on the new server.
As from here the admin interface is not normal, no more images, no import button for templates...Pages menu and modules and many other admin menus are not working.
What did I do wrong ? Does it mean I need to redo all the site ?
Please help me, I want to be glad to send a mail and put my site on your great siteshowcase
Thanks in advance

when replacing your webserver installation with the local one you have probably overwritten config.php and now it has wrong paths.
either modify the config.php to have right paths or make sure you dont overwrite it when copying the files to server.
Hope this helps

A way to do it, I will add that I install all modules that are on test site in new site first so they have something to relate to before move, there is another method, second link down, I've not tried it though.

Hi all,
Still strugglinh to have it work without success so now my question is which files do I copy from my local cmsms to the server after the fresh CMSMS install ?
What I have been doing up till now, is to FTP all the cmsmade simple folders form my www folder on easy php ie including admin, modules, templates...everything.
But reading your post Mark, it looks like after the fresh install , the only thing to be FTP from local to server is the sqldump database . If it is the case, how do I managed to have my fine tweaked template to be displayed ?
Thanks in advance for your reply

Hi,
(Be warned, I'm newbie

)
Local server:
- Add new templates and style sheets using modified ones
- Export them using proper name (as xml file)
- Make your database dump
Real server:
- Fresh install
- Import your templates
- Restore database dump

Hi,
You didn't write the error message:
"Smarty error: unable to read resource: globalcontent:side"
I thought it could helps to get developer's attention.

Hi Hakki,
It is by following your newbie instructions that I succeded to have at least my design displayed.
Now about the error
"Smarty error: unable to read resource: globalcontent:side", I did not give it because i know why . The reason for this error is that on my local site, I have created a global content named side where I display some links and other menu.
So it is not seeing that element and that is why it is giving the message.
It is for this reason that I believe despite the mysql dump backup and restore, my cmsms installation on the new server is not seeing my pages and other elements. That is what I don't undesrtand and am still tryiing to solve.
For now i will try the backup and restore as suggested by Mark.
If any new development, I keep you informed.
Also any other suggestion is highly appreciated and welcome here.
Thanks in advance

Hi all,
I have gone through Mark's backup procedure with the backup.zip file he sent.
Thank you very much Mark, but I still do not have my pages displayed.
Finaly I maight be obliged to redo all the site online...But I am afraid what to do when I will need to bring the site to APPTA's domain.
So I will ask this other question, may be if i know exactely where my pages and other elements I have created are saved, then I can try to FTP it again.
When we create pages in cmsms, where are these pages stored?
Thanks for your replies

If you sent me the .txt file and I had the FTP rights and login for your site I could get it to work...

The pages content, templates, stylesheets, etc. are stored in the database. That is why you have to create a dump of your original database and restore it on the new server. If a (CMSMS) database exists on that server already, make sure the database is empty / all CMSMS tables are dropped before you restore the dump.

Hi all,
Mark webgirl was very right when she said you are a star.
Thanks a lot for your generous help.
It's only now that I read it.
Yesterday, almost frustrated as I could not succeed to restore my database, I took the whole night redoing the work as you can view here
http://judwan.freehostia.com/appta/index.php?page=home
Still I need to find a solution for this transfer problem, because this is not where the site will be definitely stored.
Yesterday as I could not get it to work, I was crying that I discovered gold but am obloged to drop it because it is of no use spending nights working offline if there is no real solution for the transfer....
Thank God you are there Mark and you offer your precious help...
Since I realy want to get this working, I will surely try to have another test somewhere else. When I get to the new hosting with FTP login when I need the database to be transfered, I'll surely et back to you our star...
Thanks a lot to all for your continuous help.

Hi Mark,
I am back with my transfer problem :
I manually redid the site
http://judwan.freehostia.com/appta/
But now I wish to try the multilanguage feature of cmsms.
I dowloaded and installed the cmsms mle-build4 and installed it.
I have also imported my template and the modules used in the other site as you can see here
http://appta.freehostia.com/appta/index ... home&hl=en
Now I wish to transfer the work done on the first site into the second so as to edit and add content for the egnlish version.
Please how do I do that ?
If you need the ftp logins for both sites, I am ready to give them.
Anxiously but confidently trusting you for your help...
Thanks in advance
