Installation stops at Step 8

Upgrading a CMSMS Website to version 2.2.17
Step 8 - Database Work
Installation Directory

Nothing happens and website not work.
It do no install "Create or update the database schema, set initial events, permissions, user accounts, templates, stylesheets and content"

It's hard to diagnose without seeing the error log. Can you revert to backup and maybe try the expanded installer? If it fails again, try to find the logs, and also let us know what version you were upgrading from, and what PHP version you're using.

The first reason was too old php,version. After I upgarded it, I still get same error;
PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '?', expecting variable (T_VARIABLE) in /biz/domain.com/html/lib/compat.functions.php on line 71

That still sounds like too old of a PHP version. 7.4 or 8.1 should be fine to use for the upgrade.
